13 - Influence of the Chemical Analysis of Alloys on the Nodule Count of Ductile Iron
Research Projects
Abstract:
Nodule count can be related to the fineness of structure which in turn influences the retention of primary carbides and pearlite. These structures affect mechanical properties, machinability and function of the part. Because there are so many variations of treatment alloy combinations, the Ductile lron Society Research Committee considered it important to determine the effect the chemical analysis of treatment and inoculating alloys have on nodule count. The effect of process variables on nodule count was studied under a separate project run concurrently at Case Western Reserve University.
