18 - Impact Properties of Ductile Iron by Dynamic Tear Testing
Research Projects
Abstract:
The Charpy vee notched test has been widely used to characterize the impact resistance behavior of ductile iron. However, the test is expensive and has many limitations as discussed in this report. An increasing number of producers and users have recognized the Dynamic Tear Test (DT Test) as a better alternative, and are currently using this method as a Ductile Iron Quality Control Tool. A number of these foundries have found the ASTM E604 DT Test, or a modification thereof, useful for characterizing and monitoring the quality of ductile and malleable iron production processes.
