22 - The Effects of Alloying Elements on the Critical Temperatures in Ductile Iron

22 - The Effects of Alloying Elements on the Critical Temperatures in Ductile Iron

Abstract:

The influence of carbon, silicon, manganese, nickel, copper, molybdenum, magnesium and phosphorus on the locations of both the upper and lower critical temperatures have been investigated. Silicon, phosphorus and molybdenum were found to raise both the upper and lower critical temperatures. Manganese, nickel and copper lowered both temperatures. Carbon has no significant effect on the upper and lower critical temperatures while the effect of magnesium could not be determined because of the scatter in the chemical analysis results.
