6 - Factors Influencing the Formation of Pinholes in Gray and Ductile Iron

Abstract:

Pin holes, a surface quality problem 1n all cast metals, seem to be further complicated in Ductile Iron. Not completely understood in grey iron, experiences seem to be more confusing and conflicting on Ductile Iron. Some research has been concentrated on metal variables and other research on mold variables, but none seems to tie together adequately the complete picture. Consequently, experiences and curves have been conflicting, apparently due to several types and origins of pinholes which react in different ways to different variables, in different plants.
